Sinopsis
Con imágenes nunca vistas, entrevistas exclusivas y la voz de todas las partes involucradas, La Negociación es la historia íntima de las largas y tortuosas negociaciones de paz entre el gobierno colombiano y las FARC, el movimiento guerrillero más antiguo del hemisferio, su ingreso a la vida civil y la drástica reducción de la violencia.
Retrata la larga búsqueda de la paz y de la dificultad de transformar un país que solo ha conocido la guerra.
Filmado durante cinco años en La Habana, Bogotá y enclaves guerrilleros, con independencia, acceso exclusivo y de manera objetiva muestra los vericuetos de los diálogos, el dilema entre justicia y paz, el rol de las víctimas y las dificultades de la reconciliación.
Los colombianos se encuentran en una encrucijada: ¿continuará la violencia o prevalecerá la paz?
Contexto - EL documental
El documental es la historia de las negociaciones entre el gobierno colombiano y la guerrilla de las FARC para terminar con los más de 50 años de guerra y las complejas transacciones dentro de la sociedad para aceptar el acuerdo de paz y su implementación, o no.
En una sociedad polarizada que solo conoce la guerra, hay fuertes sentimientos de escepticismo hacia la paz, así como el dolor, el odio y la desesperación que conlleva la violencia, junto con el deseo de pasar la página, para perdonar, olvidar, pedir justicia. y la verdad y la incertidumbre del futuro.
El documental busca unir los esfuerzos de muchos para crear conciencia e inspirar una conversación nacional para ayudar a crear un ambiente positivo hacia la paz con una visión a largo plazo del camino que Colombia ha hecho la transición de un conflicto de décadas a una paz imperfecta . El documental combina información veraz, contexto y perspectivas variadas que pueden ayudar a un diálogo en las próximas elecciones en las que el acuerdo de paz y su implementación están en peligro de convertirse en meras declaraciones de intención incumplidas.
El contexto colombiano enfrenta muchos desafíos: su sistema político corrupto carece de credibilidad para muchos. El plebiscito del 2016 reunió muchos factores: el ausentismo fue del 63%; las noticias falsas eran la norma, impidiendo que la población fuera informada con precisión; odio hacia las Farc y el temor de que un gobierno de izquierda llegue al poder y que Colombia se convierta en un estado fallido como la vecina Venezuela, de la cual Colombia recibe refugiados a diario.
Con este documental, el equipo busca informar a los ciudadanos colombianos y aumentar la comprensión del camino que debe trazarse para construir una sociedad pacífica.

This story of the tortuous, and ultimately successful, negotiations between the Colombian government and the hemisphere's oldest guerrilla movement shows us that making peace is harder than making war. Colombians are now at a crossroads: will violence continue or peace prevail?
Synopsis
The Negotiation tells the story of the peace dialogues between the government of Colombia and the Marxist FARC guerrilla, after more than half a century of war and three failed dialogue attempts.
The story of a long search for peace and of the difficulty of transforming a country that has only known war. Through the voices and images of the negotiators, the whole local political spectrum, the international community and victims, The Negotiation vividly displays the insurmountable obstacles created by both the fierce political opposition led by former president Uribe and the legitimate anger of a sector of Colombian civilians that jointly want to stop what they see as rewarding with political participation and impunity a long history of violence by the rebels.
The documentary narrates from the inside the ups and downs of the process, the signing of the agreement and the dramatic turning point after peace seemed an already done deal, when unexpectedly the plebiscite to approve the Havana agreement was defeated by a razor-thin-margin.
Colombia is now extremely polarized because the right wanted to annihilate the very unpopular guerrilla, and the rest of the political spectrum accepted giving them political participation in exchange for laying down their arms.
After the peace accord was finally signed, the guerrillas marched out from the deep jungles into the special holding zones and a few months later, they hand over their weapons to the UN Mission.
The images of FARC guerrillas emerging out of Colombia’s remote jungles and mountains to turn over their weapons seemed close to impossible just a few years ago. The oldest guerrilla of this hemisphere, the terror symbol for most Colombians, was demobilizing.
But if negotiations were difficult, the implementation of the agreement seems even harder and in jeopardy.
The country remains deeply divided.
The government has been slow to deliver what was signed in the agreements, including the infrastructure and economic plans to help the former rebels transition to civilian life.
The runoff of the presidential elections will be held this June and the opposition party, have said that once in power they will “shred into pieces the agreement” and they seem to be the most likely winners.
The documentary portrays Colombia’s longing for peace and the inertia of violence that after a very long war seems to hold.

LOS HECHOS
El acuerdo de paz, firmado contra viento y marea, no está consolidado y su implementación enfrenta una fuerte oposición en esta sociedad polarizada. El objetivo del documental es que al brindar información veraz y precisa, presentada en una narración bien contada, pueda inspirar a los colombianos a crear espacios políticos para respetar la paz duramente ganada.
Un segmento de la sociedad colombiana aborrece, ignora o no valora los beneficios que el acuerdo de paz ha traído en términos de vidas salvadas, reducción de la violencia y la posibilidad de cambiar la página de la guerra después de medio siglo. Además, el corrupto sistema político colombiano carece de credibilidad para muchos. Varios hechos que se hicieron visibles en el voto plebiscitario son: noticias falsas que impiden que la población esté correctamente informada, odio hacia las Farc y el temor de que un gobierno de izquierda llegue al poder y Colombia se convierta en un estado fallido como la vecina Venezuela.
The peace agreement—signed against all odds—is not consolidated and its implementation faces strong opposition in this polarized society. The goal of the documentary is that by giving truthful, accurate information, presented in a well-told narrative, it can inspire Colombians to create political spaces to respect the hard-won peace.
A segment of Colombian society abhors, ignores or does not value the benefits that the peace agreement has brought in terms of lives saved, reduction of violence and the possibility to turn the page of war after half a century. Also, the corrupt Colombian political system lacks credibility to many. Several facts that became visible in the plebiscite vote are: fake news that prevents the population from being accurately informed, hate towards the Farc and the fear that a leftist government will come to power and Colombia becomes a failed state like neighboring Venezuela.

Construir relaciones y fomentar alianzas con aquellos interesados en difundir el mensaje de que necesitamos defender los frutos del acuerdo, más allá de la política, así como la necesidad de su implementación y reconciliación.
Con el documental quisiéramos contribuir a que las personas evalúen su opinión, demostrando la urgencia de salvar lo que nosotros, como colombianos, hemos logrado con el proceso de paz imperfecto pero valioso y la inclusión de las FARC en el proceso político a cambio de entregar sus armas.
Esperamos que el documental ayude a minimizar la polarización contando las intimidades de las complejas negociaciones, para que la gente pueda apreciar la dificultad del proceso y los muchos beneficios que ha traído el acuerdo de paz.

WHAT DO WE WANT TO ACHIEVE WITH THE OUTREACH PROGRAM OF THE DOCUMENTARY?
The purpose of the outreach program of this documentary is to help strengthen the citizen’s will to support peace and its implementation, and the initiatives that promote reconciliation among Colombians in a moment where peace is under attack.
Our campaign will continue building spaces for dialogue to help society build bridges of reconciliation.
The documentary might have a long-term pedagogical and cultural effect that can influence public perceptions and the political environment.
· What is the purpose of our film’s engagement / impact campaign?
With the documentary we want to raise awareness, build partnerships and relationships with those interested in spreading the word that we need to defend the fruits of the agreement, above and beyond politics, as well as the necessity of its implementation and reconciliation.
Changing minds by showing the urgency of saving what we as Colombians have achieved with the imperfect but valuable peace process and the inclusion of the FARC in the political process in exchange for laying down their weapons.
Hopefully the documentary will help to minimize the polarization by telling an inside account of the complex negotiations, so people can appreciate the difficulty of the process and the many benefits the peace agreement has brought.

If this project is a success, what will it have achieved?
It will contribute to the construction of a country in peace, reconciled with its past and strengthened to face the challenges of the future.
A successful outcome would be that the information and the context provided by the documentary will improve the quality of the discussion and that the political and social discussions would be better informed.
